Sports Editor

The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram is looking for a sports editor who can immediately step in and make a difference in our coverage.

The Leader-Telegram has long been the leading voice for sports coverage in the Chippewa Valley. We cover regional high school sports and the NCAA DIII UW-Eau Claire Blugolds. It’s a region that routinely includes state champions at the high school level and tournament-bound teams in college.

Eau Claire is a city of about 70,000, with a regional population around 100,000. It has a growing range of amenities, and is host to four high schools: Eau Claire North, Eau Claire Memorial, Regis (a private, Catholic school), and Immanuel Lutheran. The sports coverage region includes Chippewa Falls, Menomonie and several other regional communities.

The sports editor position offers flexibility in approach and planning, with the freedom to dig into stories without interference from the paper’s editor. We value innovation and an ability to go beyond game stories to embrace the programs the paper covers.

We’re hoping to find someone with 3-5 years’ experience covering sports who is looking to take the next step in their career. Experience with Blox CMS is a bonus, but not required. Above all, we want someone who is enthusiastic about sports and can bring their passion across to our readers.
