Principal Financial Group is currently looking for a talented individual, who possesses high integrity, values and initiative, to fill a Sr Corporate Negotiator position in our Sourcing and Supplier Management Department. 

In this role, you will negotiate medium to large contracts with a focus on Corporate Real Estate/Facilities contracts, with the objective of reducing both cost and risk. This position will require partnering with a third-party outsourced facilities management company to assist with the creation of scopes of work and proposals for work services.   As a Senior Corporate Negotiator, you will also have the opportunity to consult with internal business customers by analyzing needs and providing advice and guidance on the most effective negotiation strategy and purchasing method. Additionally, you will assist with evaluating and advising internal business customers of contractual rights and obligations and provide interpretations of terms and conditions. 

Responsibilities include:

- Negotiate contracts of varying size and complexity with the goal of obtaining the highest value for the goods and services purchased. Consult with internal business customers by analyzing needs and providing advice and guidance on the most effective negotiation strategy and purchasing method.  Assist in the evaluation of suppliers, products and services which will meet the needs of
internal business customers and the organization.  Evaluate and advise internal business customers of contractual rights and obligations and provide interpretations of terms and conditions. Use knowledge of contract law to review, draft and approve all contractual documents for protection of the company's contractual posture, satisfaction of internal business customer specifications and adherence to company policy.
- Build relationships with internal business customers and vendors and educate internal business customers on strategy, contract negotiations and purchasing methods and processes.  Collaborate with other sourcing staff on appropriate strategies for complex work.  Mentor and train associate contract negotiators.
- Keep abreast of sourcing best practices so strategy, contract negotiations and purchasing processes are effective, competitive, and efficient.
- Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.


  • College graduate with a bachelor's degree or equivalent (paralegals considered) with a minimum of 6+years work-related experience required.
  • Procurement and knowledge of supply chain management, contract negotiations, and contract law preferred. Experience in facilities management goods and services procurement ( capital improvement projects, building maintenance,  janitorial services, waste disposal, etc.) is a significant plus.
  • Ability to work independently and negotiate, persuade, and make quick decisions under pressure while dealing with conflicting goals and points of view.
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy, be detail oriented and have excellent analytical, organizational, leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Financial services industry knowledge preferred.
  • Experience facilitating Request for Proposals (RFPs) preferred.
  • Knowledge of sales techniques, finance, marketing and general business knowledge preferred.
  • Basic PC skills required.
