The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), a five time National Recreation and Parks Association Gold Medal Award Winner is seeking an Aquatic Facility Manager  for the Sports, Health and Wellness Division. Under general direction, this position will manage the day-to-day operations and programs of a year-round multi-functional aquatic facility and up to two seasonal aquatics facilities. Assignments include full responsibility for the operations of the assigned facilities including building maintenance, program administration and staff supervision,

 Examples of Important Duties:

  • Manage the operation, maintenance, security and repair of the assigned facilities and its equipment.
  • Recruit, supervise, evaluate and train staff. Plans, schedules and assigns work of staff.
  • Evaluates operational policies and initiates changes for improvement.
  • Coordinate in-service training and safety auditing program for assigned facilities.
  • Manages camps, swim lesson, fitness, recreational, certification programs and special events for assigned facilities.
  • Process bills/invoices
  • Communicate with various cross-functional teams within department and in other divisions to properly administer various programs and procedures.
  • Oversees facility rental and all public relations and marketing for facility programs.
  • Manages and coordinates operating budget for assigned facilities.
  • Monitors revenue producing programs and activities.
  • Controls expenditures in accordance with approved budget.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of administrative records of facility such as revenue, and expenses, inventory of supplies and equipment, timecards, rentals, facility maintenance, attendance and staff certifications.
  • Provides guidance to subordinate staff on employee-related matters (i.e. disciplinary, training, recruitment and selection, etc.)
  • Research and evaluate internal and external programming, utilizing this information to develop new initiatives or to restructure current programs.
  • Other duties and special projects, as assigned.

 Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree or four years experience in one of the following fields: parks, recreation, education, business administration, physical education, communication, leisure services, or in area of required specialty; and

2. Three years of progressive professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, education, business administration, physical education, communication, leisure services, or area of required specialty, including one year as a facility manager, program coordinator or supervisor; or

3. An equivalent combination of education and experience; and,

4. A valid operating license (i.e. county pool operator's license, child care license, etc.) where appropriate.

5. A valid driver's license may be required.

 Supplemental Information: Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.

Considerable knowledge of pool circulation, filtration, sanitation and chemistry; State and County's safe and health regulations for aquatic facilities; supervision; Lifeguard/CPR/AED/Fist Aid; principals of management.

Skills in operation of pool pump room equipment and ability to do minor pool repairs.

Ability to solve complex problems involving many variables; read and interpret technical report; prepare correspondence, communicate effectively with the public and staff; organize work efficiently; provide courteous customer service; make sound decisions and handle several tasks simultaneously; and act swiftly and affectively in an emergency.

Holidays, night and weekend work is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
Three or more years of aquatic facility and program management experience
Experience with preparing and maintaining seasonal/outdoor pools
Experience coordinating American Red Cross training programs
America Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
Pool Operator's Certification/License
America Red Cross Instructor Certifications, a plus
Aquatic Fitness and Swim Lesson Program Coordination Experience
